KNIT GNOME
The perfect holiday knitting companion!
What could make a gnome or elf cutier and perfect for the holidays than one that knits! Knit Gnome was inspired by an illustration created at the holidays of two gnomes trying to knit stockings. This illustration came about as a holiday version of the much loved Knitster Girl illustrations.
Create a gnome in different sizes by changing the yarn weight and needle size.

The gauge will affect the finished size of your gnome.
Each gnome is approximately:
28cm / 11in tall
11 cm / 4.5” wide

John Arbon Textiles Knit by Numbers DK held double
or desired DK yarn in following amounts:
Body: 125 m / 137 yds
Hat colour (H) & Stocking: 63 m / 69 yds
Beard, Nose, Hair, and CC : 63 m / 69 yds

The gnome is knit from the base of the body to the top of the hat. Stitches are cast-on with waste yarn to allow the gnome to be stuffed.
The hat features stripes and simple flecked colourwork pattern.
The waste yarn cast-on is taken out and those stitches placed back onto needles to finish the base. Before completing the base, the gnome is stuffed. The base is finished by decreasing in a similar fashion to crown shaping on a hat.
Included in the pattern are options for beard or braids to add features to your gnome.
The nose and beard are pieces that are knit separately, then sewn onto the body with a bit of stuffing.
The arms are knit directly onto the body by picking up stitches from the body. The hands are slightly stuffed before finishing.
The stocking is knit separately and left unfinished with live stitches transfered to cocktail sticks or toothpicks.
