TROI GNOME
Troi Gnome is 2023’s knitted gnome joining the growing holiday gnome family alongside Gnomad, Roosi Gnome and Knit Gnome .
It’s a cute knit holiday gnome wearing a sweater inspired by the traditional Estonian Kihnu Troi fisherman’s sweater. If you are a fan of Aleks Byrd’s Troi sweater, you’ll love making a mini me gnome version with Troi Gnome! Troi Gnome brings the same techniques used in a traditional Troi sweater of stranded colourwork knitting with Kihnu vits knitted braids.
Create a gnome in different sizes by changing the yarn weight and needle size.

The gnome is knit from the base of the body to the top of the hat. Stitches are cast-on using a crochet provisional cast-on with waste yarn to allow the gnome to be stuffed.
The hat features a series of Kihnu vits or Kihnu braids.
The nose is created from a bobble.
Once the body and hat of the gnome are finished, the waste yarn provisional cast-on is taken out and those stitches place back onto needles to finish the base. Before completing the base, the gnome is stuffed. The base is finished by decreasing in a similar fashion to crown shaping on a hat.
Optional arms are created by picking up stitches along each side of the body and knit down decreasing into a pointed hand.
A beard is created by sewing two lines of fringe below the bobble nose.
