SELI SWEATER
The Seli sweater is a roosimine knitting pattern that is a seamless cropped top-down raglan featuring embellishment on the cuffs, neckline, hem and sleeves. The cuffs, hem and neckline have corrugated rib and an Estonian knitted braid called a Kihnu Vits. The sleeves have descending motifs created using the inlay knitting technique called Roosimine. This sweater knitting pattern is worked seamlessly by placing stitches for the sleeves on hold using waste yarn or a holder while completing the body.
The design is inspired by a trip to Tõstamaa and Kihnu in southwestern Estonia that is full of unique knitting techniques, color, tradition and inspiring landscapes and architecture. The name Seli is the name of a small village with a just a few stone and wood houses near an old red wood church with beautiful graphic white trimming. The motifs that cascade in size and shape down each sleeve of Seli are inspired by this white trimming and traditional woven belt patterns from this region.
