Mapping the stars of Estonia

Since the last post, I overlaid the motifs onto a map of Estonia. This map shows the various "kihelkond" or parishes within the country that have distinctive patterns with in many traditions particularly knitting.

Map of Estonian parishes in the beginning of the 20th century overlaid with motifs.

It was interesting to see visually how the motif has spread and morphed when placed in the context of a map. It really highlights the density of the motifs towards costal and island regions.

I look forward to continuing this idea/excerise by branching further out to include the other countries in interest as well as creating other map illustration  and/or continuing to add other similarly spread motifs.
