Double Knitting Superwash Swatch

I finished a double knit swatch with a design taken from my sketches shown in a previous post. I'm am quite pleased with it. It is a design mashing up various nordic motifs in traditional striping but on a diagonal that gives it more movement that came to me when thinking about the landscape of hills and the sea.

The concept of movement (expressed by diagonals) is a translation of the transient and fluidity in the research of the the motifs used in the Nordic region. The manners in which these motifs moved or traveled, over land and sea, don't always move in the vertical and horizontal directions that these patterns are traditionally knitted in. When looking at the sea or the aspects of the land and how if moves or ripples from a interaction with the wind or a person or boat moving through there is often lines/ bands that move diagonally.
