Country House Retreat: Colourwork Edition

  • Melmerby Hall Melmerby, Penrith, England, CA10 1HB United Kingdom (map)

We are going to immerse ourselves in colour at this retreat! We’ll be diving into several colourwork techniques including traditional stranded colourwork, steeking (eek!) as well as talking about color theory and other types of colourful embellishments from Aleks’ Estonian heritage. Basically lots of ways to play with colour and various methods of handling yarn while knitting! You’ll have a chance to practice knitting a small project holding different colour yarn in both hands as well as just in one hand to knit. This is a great opportunity to gain confidence in knitting colourwork whether you're a colourwork newbie or it’s your first time.

Together we will be knitting bespoke mittens where each knitter gets to create and plan their own special colour palette for a one of a kind project with guidance from Aleks. We will be having fun with colourful embellishments on the cuffs of our mittens playing with knitted braids, two colour corrugated ribbing and a touch of Estonian knit fringe.

This retreat will be three full days of instruction and led by Aleks Byrd. We will also enjoy some leisurely walks near the property, weather permitting, and knitting time by the fire of course.
