Gift Knitting Guide

I’m all for gifting something unique and handmade. It makes for a special gift that you’ve put al little bit of yourself into. For knitters, gift knitting can be a true labor of love but also a great opportunity to use some stash. When I do gift knitting for the “ knit worthy” people in my life, my go to patterns are small accessories which are quick to knit and portable for working while traveling. Let’s be honest, larger projects like sweaters require more advanced planning and time!

Here are some of my favorite gift knitting patterns:

MITTENS & FINGERLESS GLOVES

I love knitting mittens and fingerless gloves any time of the year because they are quick to knit and really useful in the cold months. It’s something that any lucky recipient will enjoy.

Davvi Mitts

The perfect pair of mitts that look special and are engaging to knit with a mixture of twisted stitches and colourwork.

Habsburg Mitts

These mitts are great for the geometric chevron pattern lover.

Narbeth Mitts

Packed with lovely details like Latvian braids, corrugated rib and colourwork, these mitts are quite special.

COWLS & SHAWLS

Narbeth Cowl

Who doesn’t like a cowl that wraps twice for extra warmth! It’s also a 2 skein project.

Hitchhiker Shawl by Martina Behm

This is a great 1 skein project. It was written to use 1 skein of fingering / 4ply weight yarn though I’ve knit some with 1 skein of DK as well as some with holding a strand of mohair with DK for added warm haze. Another nice modification is to add some eyelets with a row of yarn overs for a slight lacey look.

HATS

Elupuu

Looking for something a little different? This hat is a fun knit to try Roosimine which is an Estonian technique that gives the appearance of embroidery.

Brackett Hat by Whitney Hayward

A nice cable hat from Laine Magazine issue 3 that looks great finished off with a fun pompom.

Sabi Hat by Olga Buraya-Kefelian

The chevron pattern from the textured stitches make this quick knit very impressive!
