The word vaip is Estonian and means rug. Rugs in Estonia can be the colorful scrap rugs or woven rugs that are used as coverlets to keep people warm during the long cold winters. It is a tapestry of colors some which are drawn from nature others that have strong vibrant colors that are representative of the brilliant colors seen on many of the islands dotting the west cost of Estonia. This cowl was designed to be reminiscent of the rugs that cover the floors and beds in Estonia keeping its people warm. This cowl is created of serval different patterned bands blended together using variegated dyed yarns to create a warm, wearable and beautiful tapestry rug.
